Schools for Goal 7 Enters Its Second Year: Applications Now Open for Educators

ree

For the second consecutive year, the UN Sustainable Development Solutions Network’s (SDSN) Global Schools Program (GSP) invites passionate educators from around the world to join the Schools for Goal 7 Program, an initiative by the Global Schools Program in partnership with Siemens Energy. This program empowers teachers and students to explore clean energy, STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts,  and Mathematics), and sustainable development through gamified curricula.

Launched in November 2024, the Schools for Goal 7 Program has already demonstrated significant impact. In its first year, 58 educators and 1,320 students from 29 countries completed the pilot program. Teachers reported an average satisfaction score of 4.45 out of 5. Moreover, 98.3% of educators reported feeling confident about integrating SDG7 into their classrooms after participating in the program.

In its second year, educators will engage in an online training focused on integrating SDG7 (Affordable and Clean Energy) with a STEAM focus in their classrooms. Following the training, participants will implement what they’ve learned by leading their students through Planet Rescuers, a ten-week Minecraft Education video game experience supported by the Global Schools team.

Educators will also have the opportunity to implement activities from Global Schools’ educational resources like the Guide on Renewable Energy and the Energy Transition, and the Greening STEAM Education guide, which cover topics such as renewable energy, the energy transition, climate action, green skills, and sustainable consumption.

This year, a new key feature of the program is the Schools for SDG7 competition, which invites students to create projects addressing real-world issues linked to SDG7. Participants will also be able to take part in the Green Careers Symposium, a new forum connecting students with professionals to shape the future of green jobs.

The initiative is free and open to all secondary teachers and school leaders worldwide, with a special call to those working to address gender biases in STEAM education.

Find more information about the activities and dates here, and apply today by completing this form.

This year, we are also offering the program in Spanish. You can find more information here.

Applications are open until November 7, 2025.

By joining this initiative, educators will become part of a global movement that equips the next generation with the skills needed to build more resilient societies.
