Transformation in the classroom begins with teachers who dare to lead. This month, we are proud to spotlight seven exceptional Global Schools Advocates who have demonstrated remarkable leadership within their school communities. By integrating Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) into their curricula and supporting their peers, these educators are not only teaching sustainability they are empowering the next generation of global citizens to lead it.

Sara has actively promoted Education for Sustainable Development within her school community. She helped students understand the importance of life on land and life below water, and guided them in recognising the value of water and other natural resources.
She initiated meaningful conversations among teachers and staff about responsible resource use and its impact on the environment. Through her efforts, Sara creates more awareness and inspires sustainable practices within the wider community.

Fireley Uribe encourages global collaboration between schools and integrates the SDGs and children's rights into service-based learning.

Rita, the first Advocate from Chad, has dedicated her efforts to promoting the integration of the Sustainable Development Goals within the national education landscape. She has engaged ministries, school administrators, teachers, and families in understanding the value of sustainable development in education. In her classroom, she empowers students by linking science activities to global issues, motivating them to design creative solutions to challenges such as climate change and food resilience.

Kawooya Benard is a Ugandan primary-school teacher who is passionate about transforming the lives of his students and also protecting nature. He has worked tirelessly to contribute to the attainment of Education for Sustainable Development (EDS) and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). He is now exporting his efforts to partner institutions and the local community. He has conducted workshops with students, fellow staff members and parents, in and outside his school. Benard has cultivated 21st Century skills and values, and also enlightened students about the current global developments and the history of the world via.
Benard leads several initiatives at MST Junior School- Entebbe, near Uganda's capital - Kampala, which he is working hard to turn into national projects. Since his childhood, he has fallen in love with ''green scenes'' and thus forcing him to direct a lot of efforts towards climate action and better health. Through his collaboration with the school administrators, has been training and leading his students to the National Agricultural Educational Shows for all levels at Jinja Show Grounds for four years. The learners participate in exhibition, poetry, essay writing and debates in the efforts to pursue the National Development Plan and the Global Goals. In 2025 his school emerged the overall national winner.
Benard, through his service as a teacher, Global Schools Advocate, disciplinary counselor and environmentalist, remains committed to sustainable development in society and the planet.

Peggy Karagianni promotes the Sustainable Development Goals through creative, student-centered projects. As a Global Schools Advocate, she supports teachers in bringing sustainability into everyday learning, designs activities that connect lessons with real-world issues, and encourages students to take informed action. Her work strengthens global citizenship and fosters a culture of responsibility and collaboration within the school community.

In October, Sadia led her school community, teachers, students, and parents in a series of meaningful Education for Sustainable Development initiatives that brought the SDGs to life through action, collaboration, and reflection. Each activity was intentionally designed to build awareness, critical thinking, and responsibility among learners.
Under the theme of Climate Action, Sadia transformed the Annual Orientation Session into an interactive platform for environmental awareness. She guided students and teachers in researching sustainable solutions, developing working models, and presenting them through engaging talks and exhibitions. Pledge walls and interactive booths invited families and guests to participate, while students tracked the implementation of these commitments at school and at home.
Sadia also facilitated Grade 5 students in conducting research on food waste within the school dormitory. Through data collection and analysis, students proposed practical strategies for minimizing waste, leading to student-led monitoring systems that promoted mindful consumption and responsible use of resources.
In support of Good Health and Well-being, Sadia coordinated a large-scale dental health camp with visiting dentists and encouraged healthy lifestyle habits through creative activities such as fruit and vegetable carving. She also supported the implementation of a Healthy Eating Policy to promote long-term wellness among young learners.
To advance Reduced Inequalities, Sadia collaborated with the Ministry of Human Affairs, where students performed as elderly citizens and represented diverse groups, promoting empathy, inclusion, and intergenerational respect. She further engaged the school’s Community Service Society in fundraising efforts for flood-affected families and initiated environmental stewardship projects through tree plantation drives.
Throughout these initiatives, Sadia ensured strong engagement from students, parents, teachers, and external partners. Her leadership fostered a holistic approach to sustainable learning and empowered students to take meaningful action within their community. She remains dedicated to strengthening Education for Sustainable Development practices and looks forward to further guidance as she continues her advocacy work.

October was a transformative month in Nunurai’s journey as a Global Schools Advocate.
Nunurai led a full range of Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) aligned projects across many subjects, empowering learners to connect global challenges with real-world action.
In line with SDG14: Life Below Water, Nunurai’s learners visited the Two Oceans Aquarium. Thereafter, the learners created models, artwork, and written reflections on protecting marine life. They explored endangered species, ocean pollution, and confidently linked their work to Sustainable Development Goal 14.
Her grade 7 and 8 learners focused on participated in a school Enterprise Challenge for Economic and Management Sciences as part of a broader Quality Education (SDG4) agenda.
The learners developed SMARTER business plans, marketing strategies, and innovative business ideas. This ongoing project strengthened their entrepreneurship skills, teamwork, problem-solving abilities, and broader twenty-first century competencies.
Additionally, Nunurai integrated Computer Science into climate-change projects, gamification activities, and business concepts while promoting equal access to Information and Communication Technology for girls. Learners grew in creativity, digital skills, presentation skills, and innovation.
Nunurai had the privilege of attending the British Council’s World Teachers’ Day webinars. She completed certifications on sustainability, climate-change role play, and twenty-first century skills—and applied these strategies in class, increasing learner engagement, confidence, and participation.
Nunurai’s learners researched global problems, conducted community surveys on gender inequality, explored diversity and inclusivity, and presented oral reflections. They wrote essays on Sustainable Development Goals of their choice and developed empathy, critical thinking, communication skills, and global citizenship.
October strengthened Nunurai’s commitment to inclusive, interactive, and globally connected learning. She is grateful for the growth, creativity, and meaningful action demonstrated by her students and community throughout the month.
