Casnati for ESD among quality projects financed by the Lombardy Region (Italy)

On February 8th, the results of the call "Proposals for environmental education and education for sustainability" were made public. This call is a significant tool to select and support quality projects in the region.

Among 66 applications submitted to the region for funding, the Casnati for ESD project developed by Centro Studi Casnati was ranked third in the merit ranking, with a score of 44/45, equal to that of the first two awardees. The Casnati for ESD project became one of 10 financed projects, with only two awards in total going to a school.

THE RECOGNITION

In particular, Centro Studi Casnati was granted funding of 10,000 euros to support and develop its Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) program. This is the maximum amount that can be awarded for a single project. In addition, Casnati for ESD was awarded the title of "Quality project for environmental education and sustainability in Lombardy", with the provision of a plaque.

THE PROJECT AND ITS PERSPECTIVES

Casnati for ESD was born at the end of 2022 out of the collaboration between Centro Studi Casnati and the Global Schools Program (United Nations Sustainable Development Solutions Network), setting itself up as a model to integrate Education for Sustainable Development into the multidisciplinary teaching discipline of civic education.

The main objectives of the project are: 1) to train students (and teachers) on the ESD "concept" so that they themselves become promoters of sustainable lifestyles; 2) to increase the audience's sensitivity to green issues.

Casnati for ESD’s network has already involved more than 20 companies and associations in the organization of events and curricular projects for students. Moreover, through the web channels of Casnati for ESD as well as partners, they are reaching an online community of +90,000 followers.

The funding by the Lombardy Region will support Casnati for ESD in the development of innovative educational activities to:

  • develop a “sustainable school model”;

  • promote networking for the development of spontaneous alliances between educational organizations, companies, and institutions;

  • encourage the culture of sustainability to achieve collective ecological intelligence.
