Dr. Alan Heinze

Researcher

Alan Heinze began his academic and professional career with a focus on biodiversity conservation, combining his studies (B.Eng. in Environmental Biotechnology, UAG, 2001) with professional experience in plant conservation programs and various environmental consulting projects.

During his postgraduate studies (M.Sc. in Sustainable Tropical Forestry, Erasmus Mundus Joint Master’s Degree, 2013), he had the opportunity to explore and study tropical forests in Malaysia, Tanzania, and Ethiopia. He also developed a thesis on the local ecological knowledge of coffee farmers in two protected natural areas in Nicaragua and Guatemala.

Several years later, Alan participated in the interdisciplinary FOREFRONT program (“Nature’s Benefits in Agroforestry Frontiers”), undertaking academic research stays at ECOSUR in San Cristóbal and Wageningen University (Ph.D., WUR, 2021), while collaborating with rural communities in the La Sepultura Biosphere Reserve in Chiapas, Mexico.

He subsequently joined CIATEJ and a diverse team of researchers and educators with the goal of developing transdisciplinary, open-science educational programs in Mexico, particularly the PIES AGILES (2021–2023) and ENBCASA (2024–2026) programs, led by CIATEJ-SECIHTI (formerly CONAHCYT).
